Hotel des Métallos

The location is amazing, and we got a warm, friendly welcome. The room had everything we needed, and the buffet breakfast was very good with lots to choose from.

The hotel is very close to the metro, which was handy, but the stay was below par. I was there for two nights. The bed was hard, the pillows uncomfortable, and the cleaning wasn't very good. There was still hair on the towels from before.

The breakfast was disappointing and, at €10, didn't feel worth the price. On my last day, the promised free WiFi wouldn't connect, and the young man at the front desk didn't seem to care, in a very Gallic fashion. The hotel itself is quaint and cozy, set on a one-way cobbled street. My room was small as you'd expect, but clean. The bathroom was clean too, with a hot shower, spotless loo, and fresh towels. The front desk staff were kind and friendly, and I appreciated that they spoke English as well as being bilingual.

For a short solo trip where you want good value and won't spend much time in the hotel, this place works well. If you're after something more special, probably look elsewhere. The location suited me for work, close to both my office and a Metro station, and the room was perfectly clean overall, though there were several dark hairs across the quilt at first. After that, it was cleaned well each day. My main concern was coming back at 10:30pm to find my door wide open because the cleaner had accidentally left the latch on. As a solo female traveller, that was scary, even though I'd locked away all my valuables. At reception, the staff member didn't seem to understand why I was concerned, but did apologise and make a note. I heard nothing more. Check-in was similarly nonchalant, with the receptionist simply handing me the key. The room looked much smaller than the photos, though it was okay since I was hardly in it. I stayed just after the heatwave. There's no AC, but they provided a large fan that worked well; even its lowest setting was noisy and a bit annoying to sleep beside. I also woke a few times around 2am to other guests arriving on my floor. The corridor is narrow and the doors are thin, so I could hear everything.
