Hôtel du Roi René

I chose this hotel because its location and price seemed convenient, but my stay turned out to feel like a scam. The service was the worst treatment I’ve ever had in any hotel: unfriendly, with false statements and no willingness to help, even though I had proof of my reservation. The doors were closed, there was nobody to ask for help, not even by phone, and the woman in charge, perhaps the owner, didn’t care at all. She made things up and even called the policy. You do NOT want to stay here !!!

Everything feels old and worn, with so many broken things: a mirror falling apart, sockets pulled out of the wall, stained curtains, a filthy carpet, broken furniture, and walls that urgently need paint. The sink and shower were both completely blocked. This hotel needs serious renovation. Seriously, don’t book a room here. Places like this shouldn’t exist.

The breakfast was laughable: one croissant, half a baguette, two small jams per person, black coffee, and one glass of orange juice. When we asked the server, who was also the housekeeper, for water, she rolled her eyes like we were asking too much. Wi-Fi worked only in reception, despite being advertised for the rooms, and the rooms weren’t soundproof. We could hear every conversation, footstep, and door slam from the hall and nearby rooms. My room at Hotel Roi René was never cleaned during our entire four-night, five-day stay. No fresh towels, no cleaning, no effort from housekeeping at all, completely unacceptable for that length of stay. We arrived at 1 p.m., though check-in was officially at 3, and they’d only let us check in early for an extra €35. We declined and asked to leave our two small backpacks at reception while waiting. They charged €5 per bag, even though there’s no luggage room and they just left them behind the desk. The booking clearly said the room would have AC, but there wasn’t any. Reception offered an old fan for €10 per day. When I asked why we’d pay extra for something that was supposed to be included, the receptionist just said, “now this is it.” The fee wasn’t mentioned in the booking. There was no hair dryer either, though that was listed, and reception admitted they didn’t have one anywhere, not even at the desk. The hotel doesn’t deliver what it promises and tries to charge extra for basic things while providing poor service. It was uncomfortable, unclean, and unwelcoming. Avoid this place.

The bed was in really bad shape. Don’t bother ordering breakfast either: we paid 9 euros per person and got one croissant each and half a baguette.
