Hôtel 34B - Astotel

After long days walking in the cold, I really liked coming back and having tea in the lobby. The treats there are completely free, which was the best part for me. We stayed five nights, and the staff were good, the hotel was clean, and the location was amazing, near Montmartre and the Louvre. Public transport is a five-minute walk away. I strongly recommend it.

The biggest improvements would be the beds and pillows, which need to be much better, and the cleaning. My floor was quite dirty when I arrived, there could have been more dusting, and the decorative pillows should go if they aren't washed. Self check-in felt unwelcoming, especially with staff available and not busy. The place shows plenty of wear, and the TV only sometimes gets English-language news. There were good things too: the location, mini fridge, kettle, safe, phone, lights, afternoon snacks at all astrotel locations, decent-sized bathroom and bedroom, and good temperature control. Three of the four staff members I dealt with were helpful.

We slept surprisingly well, even on the first floor with a window facing the street. The stay was very comfortable, and the front desk staff were attentive. Linens were clean, though the floors could have been cleaner. A nice choice if you want to be close to several train stations.

We never heard back after management said they'd contact their insurance company, and there was no compensation. They told us their insurance wouldn't cover the theft, even though guest safety should be their responsibility. Our bag, with a mobile phone inside, was stolen from the lobby while we were packing. We were standing right beside it and had only turned away for a moment. There are no lobby cameras and apparently no control over who comes in. The hotel has no restaurants or shops, so there shouldn't be random visitors wandering around, but anyone can walk straight in. That's how the thief got access. This was extremely disappointing and stressful. If your security matters to you, stay away. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone traveling with children, luggage, or valuables.
