Anya Hotel

The staff are the best part of this little hotel, really warm and friendly. Anya gets the job done. The rooms are basic, with the familiar Paris-style shower and toilet combo, but everything felt warm and clean. If you’re after luxury, look elsewhere. For a budget stay, it works well. I lived nearby for five years, so I already knew how useful the location is. You can hardly get closer to the metro unless you stay at the McDonald's. Rue de la Roquette, Ledru-Rollin, and the heart of the Bastille area are all close, with fewer tourists around. People mention that there’s no elevator, but it’s a tiny hotel and each flight is just a few steps. I’d happily come back if my travels bring me to this part of town again.

Clean place, really friendly staff, and the best value for money I found for a room in Paris. It’s in a lively, international neighborhood too. If stairs are difficult for you, ask for a room on the first floor.

The reception staff were very nice and courteous. It seems likely that the family who owns the place also manages it. The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, and Boulangerie, and Voltaire metro station is about a three-minute walk away. If you’re visiting Paris on a budget and will spend most of your time out, this place works well. The rooms are a reasonable size, clean, and have comfortable beds. In the single room, the bathroom and toilet were really tiny. You only get a small bar of soap and shower gel, and my biggest gripe was the lack of a hair dryer. There’s a cupboard, a table and chair, and a side table, though the lighting is a bit dim. The Wi-Fi is fast, but the rooms aren’t soundproof, so you may hear your neighbors talking. This is a no-frills hotel aimed at budget travelers, so the price should be part of the judgment. It does the job, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for serious comfort. There’s no lift, so avoid booking if you’re bringing small children and a stroller.

Worst hotel ever. The beds and rooms were really bad. My bed had a hole in it, and there’s no soundproofing, so you can hear other rooms and people in the bathroom.
