Hotel Glasgow Monceau Paris by Patrick Hayat

Fine for a one-night, 24-hour trip to Paris, but I wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer. The photos make it look better than it is: the room was dark and shabby, with the toilet in an odd wardrobe cupboard and sketchy tiles. It didn’t feel worth the price or like a 3-star hotel. Our girls had a different room with a more normal bathroom. We did sleep well because it was pitch black, and the shower was hot. The night was quiet, though the morning was very noisy and we could hear everything from other rooms. It was Baltic cold, but we only noticed the radiator behind the curtains in the morning.

The room was freezing because the heating didn’t work. Towels were dirty, with yellow marks, visible hair, and a bad smell. The bed linen was dirty and torn too. When I lifted the blanket on arrival, the blanket and sheet were covered in hair. There was also a strong damp smell as soon as we entered. I booked five nights, but the conditions were so unacceptable that I asked to cancel on the first day. At first, one receptionist spoke to management, and they agreed to my refund request. Later, the receptionist who had checked us in came on duty. I politely asked them to confirm the refund had been approved so I could check out. They responded aggressively and disrespectfully, saying, “I won’t show you any proof,” “Go get confirmation from Booking.com,” “This has nothing to do with me,” and “Do whatever you want, it’s not my problem.” When I asked for the hotel manager, they rudely said, “I am the manager on duty,” which effectively stopped me from speaking with management. Their hostile manner escalated the situation instead of helping resolve it, and made a bad experience even worse. After reading other reviews, I saw many guests had complained about the same receptionist’s aggressive and disrespectful behavior. It seems management hasn’t taken those complaints seriously, just as it has ignored other recurring issues. Guests’ trips keep being affected. Management initially tried to resolve my issue, but this receptionist undermined that effort. I strongly don’t recommend this hotel. This was the worst hotel stay and travel experience I’ve had. I hope the hotel takes responsibility for its mistakes instead of dismissing negative reviews or accusing guests of harming its reputation, as it has in some responses to other reviews.

The beds were so comfortable I slept like a baby, and the hotel had everything I needed to feel relaxed. Breakfast was a real treat, especially the homemade cakes and delicious French toast. I’d definitely recommend Hotel Glasgow Monceau for a Paris stay.

The staff made it impossible to get my perfume back after I realized I’d left it in the room. That was one of several problems. The rooms were small, needed more cleaning, and smelled musty when we arrived. The central heating never came on, even though each room had its own controls. My wife asked for an extra towel, but the manager was unprofessional and unhelpful. I’d booked directly and paid a rate that included City taxes, as confirmed by the hotel’s invoice, but we were charged those taxes again at check-in. We had to pay again to avoid losing the accommodation we’d already paid for. The whole experience was very disappointing, and I feel the issues we faced deserve this review.
