Hotel Malar

The location was the strongest point, and the room and linens otherwise looked very clean, though I could still see some traces of mold in the shower. I paid US$555 for three nights and had a friend stay with me for one of them. I booked through Booking.com and am posting several photos of one room. I’d assumed breakfast was included, so the $75 bill for four breakfasts caught me off guard. The food wasn’t worth that price. Communication between the male front desk staff and the female housekeeping staff seemed seriously lacking.

The staff were so welcoming, even offering to carry my bags upstairs. The hotel has a lot of charm, and its location made exploring the city easy. Free internet was quick and reliable, too. My room was clean, with a very comfortable bed and its own bathroom. Space was limited, though, and the narrow spiral stairs could be difficult for some people to manage. The bathroom was small but usable, while the shower was exceptionally tiny and might be tough for taller or larger guests. Still, I had a lovely stay thanks to the hospitality and character here. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy place in a convenient spot.

There are lots of restaurants nearby, and the little courtyard is a nice feature. This small boutique hotel is right in central Paris, so we could walk to the tower, the Louvre, and most of the sights we wanted to see. The rooms aren’t spacious like you might expect from an American-style hotel.

The kind staff were the only reason I found out my booking had been cancelled. The new owners cancelled it the morning I was supposed to arrive, without notifying me, even though I’d called the day before to confirm. I’d also phoned to book after their system failed to recognize my card, and I received an email confirmation. They had already held the card for the reservation, and that hold is still there. I’ve asked them to release the amount, but now I’ll have to call my bank tomorrow. The recent management change has been absolute chaos. I wouldn’t go here, it’s been nothing but a headache.
