For what we paid, it wasn’t worth it. The hotel felt dated, and the shower was the smallest I’ve ever seen in a hotel. You couldn’t even bend down to scrub your feet. The location was great, though, and would suit someone who wants to be very close to the main area. In the summer heat, the AC didn’t work at all, and we had to put up with 23 degrees in the room the whole time. We were told the hotel has central AC everywhere, even though there are separate units in each room. That made no sense.

I’d say this is a good place to stay, and the shower had plenty of hot water. The rooms weren’t large, but they were a fair size for Paris, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The best thing is the location: Bastille is lively, and the hotel is right by the metro. It was the best value I could find in Paris at a reasonable price, despite what the ratings here might suggest. It’s less suitable if you have lots of luggage and stairs are a problem, and the Wi-Fi isn’t great.

The hotel workers were easy to approach and accommodating. It’s within walking or cycling distance of lots of tourist areas. I stayed during the Olympics without booking ahead, reserving one night at a time. Even with the Games in full swing, the rates stayed the same and were very cheap.

It may look a little run down, but the hotel was safe, clean, and comfortable, with a five-star heart and service for a two-star place. The quieter rooms are at the back, since rue de Roquette can get rowdy at night. The location is hard to beat, just by Bastille metro and a short hop from Gare de Lyon. There’s a great crepe restaurant next door and several cafés a very easy walk away. I don’t think you’ll find better value for money in Paris.

There are restaurants, cafés, and sights right outside, and the hotel is very close to the metro, just a short walk from Gare de Lyon. It’s central Paris, with friendly staff and a budget-hotel price. The place is a bit rundown, but if you keep in mind what you paid and what you’re getting, you can have a great stay like we did.
