I cancelled well within the free cancellation period, but found that the hotel had already charged my card in full. Its policy had said payment wouldn’t be taken until later and that I could cancel for free before the deadline. I tried reaching them several times by phone and email, then they stopped replying. When I finally got through, they denied charging me, even after I sent proof from my account statement. Charging without my consent and handling it this way was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Be careful about giving this property your card details.

The person at the counter was nice and relaxed, and the place is close to Gard Du Nord trainstation. That’s about all I can say in its favor. I paid 60 euro per person per night and shared the room with my son on a Disney trip. I felt awful bringing him to such a dump, though he had a blast at Disney land. What we were given was a public handicapped toilet for the inner garden seating area. It was normally unlocked, and they’d put in a bed and a broken TV and called it our room. The TV didn’t work, there was no heating or WIFI, the toilet door wouldn’t close properly, and there was no shower curtain or towels. There was no breakfast on the first day, and under the bed was very dirty. We had only two main lights and no bedside lights. It really was toilet space with a bed added. The room opened right onto the shared inner garden, so people were constantly walking by and smoking right next to us. The pictures of the rooms looked nothing like what we got. I found the neighborhood very dangerous, with groups of men hanging around. I come from a ghetto town, but Paris shocked me by how much more intense it felt. I saw huge numbers of Arab men aged 14 to 30 standing around, and felt very unsafe.

The staff were tremendously friendly and helpful, and my room was basic but clean, which mattered most to me. The shower was clean too, and there were small shampoo sachets. For a stay longer than one night, a trip to the nearby aldi for shower gel and other toiletries would be necessary. Our bathroom had a sliding door that wouldn’t open or close properly. It was fine for us as a couple, but could be awkward if you didn’t know your companion well. There was a smoke detector, and windows in both the bathroom and bedroom. At night the area felt extremely unsafe. I wouldn’t advise staying here alone without knowing how to defend yourself. As a woman, I don’t think I could have stayed in this neighborhood without my boyfriend.

The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and the beds comfortable. The showers worked well, though they were small. Some of the other furniture was broken. It’s also handy for an early Eurostar departure. I was uncomfortable with the graffiti and groups of men hanging around in this rough part of Paris, although nobody threatened us. We had a worse first impression than the full stay warranted. It was cheap and convenient, so I’m not complaining overall, but I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

This worked fine for me on a short solo trip. The WiFi worked, there was hot water, and I didn’t see bedbugs. The area didn’t seem sketchy to me, just less polished for tourists than other parts of the city. It may be a bit overpriced for what’s offered. I’d say it suits a short stay alone, but not a family unless keeping costs down is the main concern.
