Hotel Saint-Charles

The shower floor had mold growing in the corners, and the water smelled of sulfur. I had booked four nights, but after entering the room I was already coughing, and we left in less than an hour because the conditions felt unsanitary and unacceptable. Mold in a hotel room or bathroom is a health hazard. The online and in-person pictures did not match the room. They didn't show the unfinished fixes, the tiny elevator that only holds two people at a time or might fail, the very narrow hallways, or the lack of room for large luggage and luggage racks. The staff were unprofessional and not accommodating to travelers. After we declined to stay, the hotel double-booked our room, let someone else use it, and kept our payment for all four nights. That was disgusting. Don't stay here for your health and safety.

Our room, 205 on the second floor, was the problem. One person in our group couldn't come for health reasons, but the hotel wouldn't accept the cancellation. We were assigned a double adapted for disabled guests, with an extra bed placed in front of the kettle and window, leaving almost no room to move. The shower was just a curtain around a corner with a handheld shower and toilet. The floor didn't drain properly, so water spread all the way to the door after a shower. Anyone going in later to use the toilet got completely wet. There was no floor squeegee or slippers. For what we paid and the hotel's category, it was disappointing and uncomfortable. The hotel itself looked modern, clean, and nice, and reception kindly let us leave our bags before check-in.

The rooms aren't top quality, and they're very small. The worst part was the shower setup, which was broken and part of the room. My friend's room had an even worse shower, with the head broken and falling apart. The door didn't close properly, so water got all over the floor, and the shower head wouldn't stay in place.

A good-value, solid three-star hotel in a lovely area.
