Htel Montparnasse Daguerre

They cancelled our booking without warning or due process, apparently because our rate was too good. We were left without a reservation, which is unserious business. To clarify, the booking was under my fiancée Viktoriia’s name. Her card didn’t work at first, so we tried mine. The hotel immediately cancelled, saying that wasn’t allowed. When we explained, they said we could book manually, but there was no way to get the original rate. It’s now significantly higher, and we no longer have a booking for our trip. The one-star service rating is deserved.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the rooms were spotless and well equipped. They’re not huge, but this little hotel is in a perfect spot. We loved our stay and would come back without hesitation.

The room was clean and well kept, and the AC kept it comfortable. The receptionists we met were all nice and ready to answer questions, though there were four different people over our four-night stay. The hotel gave us two bottles of water on the first night, and we had to ask for more. There’s a small fridge and a very tiny TV; we didn’t use it, so I can’t say whether it worked. The room was so cramped we couldn’t open our luggage. Getting bags around was also difficult: the spiral stairs are unpleasant, and the elevator stops between floors, so you have to carry everything up or down at least one flight. It’s the smallest elevator I’ve ever seen. On checkout day, it wasn’t working, so we had to carry our luggage down from the third floor. When I asked reception about the outage, I was told management sometimes turns the elevator off from 11 PM to 1 PM. That makes little sense during checkout hours and left us feeling the setup was designed to make guests uncomfortable. I wouldn’t return or recommend the hotel. My complaint is about the layout and management’s questionable decisions, not the staff working there.

We really liked having a neighborhood setting while still being close to the action. Cimiteière du Montparnasse, the Catacombs, and some of Paris’ best restaurants, including Capsule and L'Assiette, were nearby. Getting there from Gare du Nord was convenient too. The staff were wonderful throughout our stay.
