ibis Styles Paris Buttes Chaumont

For the budget price, this hotel exceeded our expectations. It was clean and comfortable, with an adequate breakfast, and very close to Laumière metro. The staff were helpful, and a young Algerian staff member suggested places to eat. The bar opposite La Terrase is worth a visit for drinks and food. Head up to Buttes Chaumont park, where there’s a cocktail place and a restaurant. Definitely recommend.

The rooms were tidy and clean, though a little small. Staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was better than we expected. Coffee and tea are available in the lobby anytime. The hotel isn’t in the city centre, but it’s right by the metro, so you can get wherever you want.

The breakfast and coffee were delicious, well prepared, and had lots of options. The lobby and dining area were clean and cosy, and the room and views were amazing, with what felt like a recent, well-done renovation. The bathtub was a high, awkward step-in style, which felt scary getting in and out when wet, even though I’m only 30. The lift was also tiny, just enough for one small person and a carry-on. But the check-in was a nightmare. We’d booked in advance and only needed to check in, yet Fabien at the front desk was rude, extremely curt, argumentative, and unhelpful. It was the worst customer service experience I’ve had in or out of the US. We didn’t see him again for the rest of our trip. This place was not tourist friendly at all, and I wouldn’t highly recommend staying here.

The shower was so small I could barely fit, and the room hair dryer was old with melting plastic. The rooms were extremely small, and staff were unfriendly and barely smiled compared with other boutique hotels. We emailed several days ahead to request gluten-free breakfast and were told it would be provided. On the first morning there wasn’t a single gluten-free bread or cereal. When we asked reception, we got, “Do you know how hard it is to prepare glutenfree?” We do, we live with it. It was rude and cheeky. There’s a mini market right in front of the hotel with several gluten-free breads, but staff made no effort, didn’t apologize, and didn’t try to fix it. Easily the worst Ibis experience I’ve had. If you’re booking for the location, be prepared.
