Idol Hotel

The area was a real plus, with cafés and restaurants nearby and the metro easy to reach. The bed was comfortable, although the mattress sagged noticeably, like it had been through too many winters. We were both sick and, with rain most days, really wanted a kettle in the room. When we asked the receptionist for one, he refused rudely. He was unfriendly during the stay and at checkout, though the other staff were much nicer. The rooms also let in every hallway sound, and doors closing kept sounding like little alarms. Getting the WiFi to work meant going down to the lobby, forgetting the unsecured network, then reconnecting to the secure one. The staff didn’t seem to know how to sort it out. There’s no smart TV either, and the booking price looked lower because city tax wasn’t included. Our stay was okay, and the neighborhood could make it pleasant if the weather cooperates. But it didn’t feel like the comfort or service of a 4-star hotel, and it wasn’t worth the price. A little more kindness from staff would’ve made a big difference.

The music theme runs through Idol Hotel and even the surrounding area, and the location made it easy to walk to the Opera and Galeries Lafayette. Several metro stations are close by too. Enzo at reception was especially kind and helpful. He helped us get a room with a balcony, where we enjoyed champagne in the evening. The staff were all super friendly, and staying here became one of my best memories from my recent time in Paris. 5/5, I’d happily come back and highly recommend it.

We stayed five nights. The room was clean and spacious, as I’d expect for the price, but one incident with service spoiled the experience for me. Each morning we asked reception for fresh towels before heading out, since we didn’t want the room cleaned. The daytime staff always handled that kindly. Then one night around 11:30 PM, we realized we’d forgotten to ask that morning. When we politely asked the man on night reception, he was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. He said it was “our problem” and that the cleaning staff weren’t there. When we explained we needed to shower, he replied, “Don’t shower.” We were left without towels that night, even though we were only asking for towels, not room cleaning. We reported it the next morning. Staff gave a mild apology and said they’d tell management, but nobody followed up. On our last day, all we got was a cold “désolée,” without taking responsibility or offering a real apology. Refusing basic hygiene items and speaking to guests like that is unacceptable at a 4-star hotel, where service should be available 24/7. It showed a serious lack of professionalism. We won’t return or recommend Idol Hotel unless proper training and guest care are taken seriously.

The receptionist was incredibly friendly, and it was easy to get around from this fairly central spot and see the tourist attractions. I loved this quirky hotel. It was quiet, and I had a lovely 3 night stay.
