Jacobs Inn Hostel

If you’re a light sleeper, the noise could be a problem. The hostel is beside a metro station and a bar, so you hear things day and night. The rooms, including the bathroom and shower areas, are pretty compact too, so it’s not a great fit if small spaces bother you. For a short stay, though, it worked well. Reception staff were kind and helpful, checked that guests were enjoying their stay, and shared useful tips. I saw the bathrooms and showers being cleaned daily. It’s about a 30-minute walk from the main attractions, with shopping centres nearby.

We arrived with friends, but the place was so bad that we cancelled and found somewhere else. The area felt dangerous and unsafe, the rooms smelled, the beds were falling apart, and the door barely moved. We made the mistake of paying before seeing the rooms, so they wouldn’t refund us. I eventually cancelled through Booking and got back just one night’s payment. We found an amazing place for the same price about four metro stops away. Worst experience!

The bed shook badly and didn’t feel clean, and the shared toilet was disgusting and smelled awful. In our room, the bath sink wasn’t working properly, so water collected around the toilet. There was a bathing area in the room but no toilet there, and no private locker either. The hostel’s decor felt creepy. The neighbourhood was a mess to me, with lots of homeless people and unruly teenagers around. I’ve stayed in wonderful hostels in Spain and other countries for about the same price, so this place was a real disappointment. I’d say it’s the worst hostel I’ve stayed in. Don’t go there.

There were just three power outlets in a room for six, the beds were on the short side, and the WiFi barely worked. It was almost only usable in the common area, and even there the connection was poor. The kitchen was pretty grim and seriously short on utensils, so look elsewhere if you plan to cook. Our room also smelled, apparently because the toilet had plumbing trouble. The rooms themselves were smudgy, though the beds were decent. It’s fairly central and close to a metro stop, but I’d spend my money elsewhere. There’s also only one key for a shared room, so you have to pick it up at reception each time you return. Too much money for too little. Find another place.
