Jo&Joe Paris Nation — Hostel

The staff were friendly, apart from one person who yelled at me for going to get breakfast at 6:58, saying it wouldn’t start until 7:00 sharp. They could’ve been nicer about it. Breakfast was mostly carbs, though I appreciated the fresh fruit, and the coffee was good. It’s not bad for solo travel, but the room is really just for sleeping. There wasn’t much fresh air, and the mattress was very firm.

The hotel has stylish interiors and a welcoming atmosphere, and the rooms are simple but quite adequate for a night. Everything was very clean, and breakfast was tasty and filling enough to start the day comfortably. The staff were courteous and professional from the warm greeting onward. They even helped us in German, which we appreciated. One person sang for us, a personal touch that made the visit memorable. I truly can’t understand why so many guests complain, since we had such a great stay.

The staff were wonderful, friendly and attentive, and ready to help with anything. The facilities were comfortable, the atmosphere welcoming, and the location made it easy to get around and enjoy the city. I had a fantastic stay and would absolutely come back. Definitely recommend it!

By the second day, ants were coming into the room from food left outside the window by a previous guest. The room was filthy, and when I raised the problem, staff sprayed ant repellent on the floor and all over our things. When I pointed out that they’d sprayed chemicals on our belongings, I was told not to worry. The ants were already on the beds. They wouldn’t offer a partial refund or move us, only spray more chemicals. A guest had also urinated in the shower and left toilet paper there; that stall smelled of urine for four days. The room felt grimy, old, and uncleaned, with terrible lighting, and the price was nowhere near worth it. Worst of all, they lost my very important medication after saying they’d keep it safe. It has to be refrigerated, and I appreciated their offer to keep it separate from the public fridge. Departure morning was hectic and I accidentally left it behind. As soon as I landed, I emailed them my details. I had to email again to get an update, and then received a one-sentence apology saying they couldn’t find it. I asked them to check again with the staff, telling them the day and shift when I handed it over, but they never replied. Their service was awful and I can’t trust them. A truly appalling stay, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
