L'Hotel

For our 40th wedding anniversary, we needed a hotel after another place gave us a hard time about honoring the way our reservation had been made. I called this gem and they upgraded us to a suite. The room was spectacular, with a terrace and A ViEW of PARIS, and after one night there I forgot all my troubles. Breakfast was included, and they have a SWIMMING POOL. The hotel is in a chic area full of art galleries and terrific restaurants. OSCAR WIlDE and DE NIRO stayed here! The staff and reservation team were so gracious. The place feels dreamy, intimate, chic, and comfortable, and I can't find enough words for it. Book it if you want a gorgeous, gracious stay that makes your trip unforgettable!

The staff were wonderful, and they even arranged a massage for my wife and me at short notice when we arrived very early. We also got to use the steam room and pool. The hotel sits in a perfect spot in St. Germaine, an easy walk from the Louvre and other Paris attractions. The neighborhood is lovely, with plenty of cafes and bakeries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The concierge and front desk team were friendly and helpful, aside from one early morning when the overnight receptionist was asleep at the desk. I liked the comfortable feel of the lobby, and the location is central to St Germain des Pres, near the metro and classic cafes and restaurants. But this doesn't feel remotely like a five star hotel. I'd put it at three stars at best, and I wouldn't stay again. We had room 50 (Grand) for 9 nights. It was a decent size, but the space was badly used: there were no drawers, so we lived out of our suitcases for 10 days. The carpet was frayed and in very poor condition. The thermostat couldn't be adjusted, and opening the windows was the only way to cool the room enough to sleep. That wasn't workable with a loud bar next door. We skipped the hammam because the state of the room made us expect similar upkeep there. One evening we tried to order a couple of cocktails from the lounge menu, but the server said he could only pour us overpriced wine because the bartender had left for a while. Odd.
