I left after waiting more than half an hour to check in. The hotel seemed clearly not suited to “typical Japanese” customers, and the person who seemed to be the manager made remarks like “Just sit there and wait. This is not Japan” and mocking comments about “typical Japanese.” I recorded the whole conversation and can share it if anyone has questions. I know plenty of people may have stayed happily, but there’s a chance you could encounter an unwelcoming receptionist and have your Paris stay spoiled. I also wanted potential guests to know the building’s history. Calling it the painter’s house may be an embellishment. It was “la maison close,” which the painter sometimes visited. There are several references to the hotel’s address on Wikipedia.

A great spot, with easy access to food, drinks, shopping, and MRT connections. The room was clean, the place quiet, and the staff friendly. I’d try it, and come back again.

I felt pretty safe walking around in the daytime as a woman traveling solo and visiting Paris for the first time. The hotel sits on a quiet, low-traffic street, but metro stations, good places to eat, shopping, and tourist areas are only minutes away. I didn’t go out at night, so I can’t say how it feels then. My room looked out onto a concrete wall, though that didn’t matter much since I was there to sleep after full days exploring. It was small but laid out well, with a surprisingly comfortable bed and effective A/C, which was a lifesaver in warm Paris weather. The room was clean, and the hotel was comfortable and convenient for a short solo stay. A few things could be better: there was no microwave, the fridge wasn’t very cold, the sink drained slowly, and the walls were thin enough that you might hear neighbors in the bathroom. Still, for the price and location, it’s hard to beat. A practical, no-fuss place with what you need. I’d recommend it.

I don’t get why this hotel has so many bad reviews. We had a fantastic time in Paris, and hotel lautrec was a big part of that. It’s in a great area, on a quiet street near lively stretches full of shops, restaurants, and bars. The rooms are a bit small, though everything in Paris seems small. Ours was really clean, and each day we came back it looked like new. The staff were friendly and helpful.
