Les Chansonniers

This is the worst hotel ever. Just don’t go. The double room was tiny and nothing like the picture, the walls were paper thin, and the cleaning was awful. We got stained towels and sheets and had to ask for toilet paper, then walk back to our room carrying it under our arm. The staff were incompetent and unfriendly. Parking was a disaster. They took our money quickly but didn’t explain where to go or where we could park. They never told us which space we could use, then blamed us for parking in the wrong one. Even a youth hostel gives better service. It isn’t worth the price. Be kind to yourself and stay away.

We loved Paris, and our week here was positive overall. The location was great, and we loved Maya, the cat. I can see how a stay might be challenging if you don’t adapt to their culture, though. We misunderstood and thought we could use the kitchen, but we couldn’t. They did give us hot water when we asked. On the third night, one staff member said we were asking for far too much, so we bought our own boiler to avoid problems. That solved it. Communication can be an issue if you aren’t willing to collaborate. Some staff, especially the morning receptionist, were very helpful and nice, while others weren’t as much. The person you speak with can make a difference to your stay.

The price we paid two months ago was the reason for my four stars. It was the best value we could find in Paris. The room was small but decent, and the neighborhood felt safe, with cafés, brasseries, and supermarkets nearby. The staff were friendly, and it’s not far from the city center. It’s clean, but of course it isn’t a four-star hotel. There’s no elevator, and the stairway shows the building’s age. The view wasn’t anything special.

Our room seemed freshly renovated, though I don’t know if every room has been done. It looked beautiful, with good aesthetics, and was clean. There was some noise next door from renovation work. It wasn’t large, but it was comfortable for two people who are out all day. The reception staff were very kind, and the location was perfect, close to the metro. We thought breakfast was expensive, though I guess that’s the same everywhere in Paris. In the end, we skipped it.
