Hotel Modern'Est

The room had plenty of space and a really comfortable bed, and I had a great time at Modern'Est hotel. The concierge staff were kind and polite. Just be aware the elevator is small if you’re claustrophobic.

From the room, we had a nice view, and the location was very convenient, right by Gare de l’Est, with a metro station downstairs and a bus stop nearby. The hotel was okay, but the cleaning needs work. I found a previous guest’s passport between the towels, which clearly hadn’t been changed. The elevator was very small, and the hotel isn’t really soundproof. The neighborhood is lively, though it can feel a little shady late at night, so it’s best to be cautious.

The price was excellent, and the concierge was very polite. I asked for a quiet room and got room 58, a double on the fifth and top floor. There’s an elevator, and the room looked onto the courtyard, so it was quiet with no outside noise. The downside is poor sound insulation between rooms, so you can hear your neighbors. That’s no fault of the hotel if the neighbors are inconsiderate. A convenient location if you need Gare du Nord or Gare du Est.

I didn’t receive the room I booked through the hotel’s own website. When I complained, the receptionist was rude and basically told me to take it or leave it. It was too late to look elsewhere, so I accepted the room they offered. The photos I attached show it isn’t even a room listed by the hotel, more like a closet. I’d be careful booking this hotel directly, and think it may be safer to use booking instead.
