The breakfast was part of the room price, with the usual French continental choices plus a good range of cheeses and ham, including prosciutto. Our room had plenty of storage and felt very spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows that brought in lots of light. There was a sofa, a low table and a desk, and the shower room came stocked with high-end toiletries. We were lucky enough to stay here again, and it still ticks all the boxes. Since this is a chambre,d'hote, proprietor Jean Etienne is right there and always on hand with advice.

The location really is hard to beat. The metro entrance is about 10 meters away, the Louvre and Seine are roughly a 25-minute walk, and the district felt clean and safe. The room was also large and bright, and the bed was comfortable. But I wouldn’t stay again. For the price, the experience was disappointing. Breakfast barely changed from day to day: bread, one kind of ham, two cheeses, yogurt, fruit salad with lots of tiny flies, and one croissant per guest. The butter came in small supermarket portions and was about a month past its date, yet kept being served. Since the table is small, we had to tell the host each day what time we planned to eat the next morning. When we arrived 20 minutes later than our stated time, he made an offensive remark. It felt unpleasant and unprofessional, as though guests on holiday were expected to keep a work schedule. The bathroom was tiny, with nowhere to put towels after a shower. The radiator was caked in dust, and there was some black mold in the shower. Our towels stayed damp after one use. When we asked for daily changes, the host refused, saying he was being eco-friendly by changing them every other day. He also wouldn’t give us an extra towel, and suggested that people in my country didn’t care about the environment. I disagree. Running a hotel already uses a lot of water and creates CO2 emissions through guests’ flights to Paris. The old taps, with separate hot and cold controls, also seem wasteful: you have to keep adjusting them to get the right temperature and pressure. Those things seemed more worth addressing than refusing another towel. The room was noisy too. We could easily hear sounds from the kitchen, hallway and outside, which made it hard to relax and left me wondering how much of our own noise carried. The host initially seemed friendly when he gave us keys and transport cards to load tickets onto. On our last day, he also found a luggage scale when I asked, which was helpful. Those gestures didn’t make up for the rest.

Being back at My Home For You for our second visit felt like staying in a beautifully decorated Paris apartment of our own. Owner Jean Etienne is generous with his time and local knowledge, and makes guests feel very welcome. Breakfast was excellent, with lovely little extras like homemade cakes. We’d happily recommend the place and hope to return soon.

The host was so kind and helpful, and the service was amazing. We loved the room and the breakfast, especially the best croissants we had and a fantastic dessert. It’s well placed for several sights, including monmarte and the louvre, as well as the hopon-hopoff bus station. If I’m in Paris again, I’ll stay here.

The neighborhood makes this B&B especially convenient: the metro is about 15 feet from the entrance, with a Starbucks, an M&S food store and plenty of restaurants nearby. I also felt safe walking around alone. The bed was very comfortable, the place was spotless, and the rain shower had plenty of hot water. Jean Etienne, the owner and host, was friendly and full of useful tips on places to see, eat, local events and getting around. One morning he even bought Musée d'Orsay tickets online for me, so I didn’t have to queue. Breakfast included croissants, bread, fruit, yogurt, cheese, meat, a homemade item each day and some of the best coffee I’ve had. If you’re not looking for a big chain hotel, this is a great way to get an authentic Paris stay.
