Hotel Royal Bergere

The reception staff were lovely and helpful, but the hotel really needs freshening up. We stayed one night in late June, when it was about 26C, and there was no air conditioning anywhere. They gave us a fan that, honestly, wouldn’t pass a UK safety check, but we had to use it to make the room bearable. The bathroom felt dated too, with a folding shower door and separate hot and cold taps. Breakfast was adequate, though the choice was limited and the portions small. We wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

The location is central, which is good, but the entrance looked dirty and uninviting. The main receptionist came across as grumpy, as if saying hello or smiling at a guest was too much to ask. The beds desperately need new mattresses, and the rooms look like they haven’t been renovated since the 1950s, no exaggeration. I’ll never come back.

The staff were helpful and nice, and the location is great, with restaurants, bars, and transport close by. The hotel itself, though, is a dive. It’s in very poor shape and badly maintained, with small, unpleasant rooms and really uncomfortable beds. Breakfast wasn’t good either and didn’t feel worth the price. It may be inexpensive, but the savings aren’t worth staying somewhere this unpleasant.

The hotel is nothing special, but the price was good and we could easily walk to many of the city’s major sights. I spent two nights here with my girlfriend while we toured the city. The rooms were small but comfortable, and the staff were pleasant and helped when we asked. I’d definitely stay here again on a future trip to Paris.
