The Chess Hotel

When I asked for two pillows, I was told they could only bring them four hours later, at 11 p.m. When they finally showed up, staff said only one was available. I also asked to order water and was told, “In Paris you can drink from the sink.” That response was completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming to be boutique or high standard. The service felt shockingly unprofessional, with a strange attitude and no effort to accommodate guests. The rooms were much smaller than they appeared online. Honestly, this was one of my worst hotel experiences in Paris. I wanted to give it zero stars, but couldn't. Don't trust the ratings. There are much better hotels in Paris for the same price or less.

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. It's excellent value for money, the location couldn't be better, and the staff were very friendly. I wish I'd asked the name of the person who checked us in so I could thank them personally. The room cleaning was satisfactory, though it could have been better.

I've stayed at Hotel Chess since 2019, and now think of it as my home in Paris. It's an intimate, very private hotel, which is exactly what I like. The rooms are quiet, clean, and comfortable, and the staff are always kind and accommodating. The location is unbeatable, and the view of Apollo's lyre at the top of the Palais Garnier is the cherry on top. I always feel welcome and safe here, and don't even consider staying anywhere else in Paris.

For a four-star hotel, the room amenities were very poor. There was no kettle, no teaspoons, not even basic tea sachets, and no complimentary bottles of water. The room was tiny, with barely enough space to move comfortably, and the corridors were extremely narrow. It wasn't worth the price and fell far below what I expected.
