Hotel Tingis

The location is very nice, close to the metro, train and bus stops, with lots of cafes, shops and restaurants. The room itself was normal and nice for a very reasonable price, with a fan, TV and coffee machine, but cleanliness was poor. The bedding was dirty and hadn’t been changed before check-in. I complained and the cleaning lady changed it, but that should have been done already. There was dust on the coffee machine and wardrobe, so I barely touched anything. Make sure to bring your own bedding, because I’m not sure they wash it properly. The receptionist was very nice, but whenever I needed help he seemed to be out and reception was unattended. I’d received an email saying the city tax had to be paid by card, but the receptionist said they only accepted cash. I had cash with me; otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to withdraw it from an ATM with my international card. If you just need somewhere to sleep and want to save money, it could work. If comfort matters, it isn’t suitable.

Our morning flight meant we got to the hotel at around 10, but check-in wasn’t until 14:00 and the door was locked. We’d booked a room and only wanted to leave one suitcase, but calling didn’t help. We were told, “Go away,” and to come back after 14:00. We never even got into the building. We cancelled the booking and went to a real hotel with a reception.

We arrived around 11:30pm to find nobody at the front desk. Luckily, a couple ahead of us had called the hotel, and our door key had been left on the desk. The room had basic essentials, which was fine since we weren’t there much: hot water, a comfortable bed, good heater, clean room and bathroom, and an electric fan. There was a funny smell from the shower drain. The TV didn’t work, and the mini fridge wasn’t working or clean. When the desk guy was there between 9:00 and 5:00, he was very friendly and helpful. I’d suggest picking up your key card during those hours to avoid what happened to us. I wouldn’t pay €5.00 to leave bags after checkout either. They put them on the basement stairs with a lot of other people’s luggage. If you need a basic, clean, well-located hotel, this one could suit you.

We ended up in Paris at 1 a.m. with nowhere to sleep. The hotel booking platform eventually moved us to another hotel, thankfully we had our car, but the whole thing was incredibly stressful. The hotel says on the booking site that reception is covered 24/7. On the day our stay was due to begin, after free cancellation had ended, they messaged to say check-in stopped at midnight. We tried calling several times to explain we'd arrive later and got no answer. The platform arranged for us to arrive 30 minutes after midnight. We got in using the code they sent, but nobody was at reception to check us in. Calls to every number provided went unanswered, and neither the platform's calls nor its email got a response.
