Villa Montparnasse

The room key was missing for reasons I still don’t understand, so an employee had to let us into our room. I’d also asked for a high floor and we were put on the first. On top of that, the hotel is very old, the room was tiny, the toilet light didn’t work, and we had no heating with -2 outside. I’m usually not very demanding, but this was a really bad experience. The hotel was overpriced and oversold, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

We still loved our stay, thanks in part to the comfortable bed, friendly service and great location. But I can’t figure out how this is rated four stars. The grout around the tub badly needed cleaning, the carpet seemed a decade overdue for replacement, and it would’ve been nice to have a coffee maker in the room.

The reception staff were nice, and I liked this very local area. But our room had several problems: the bed was flat, the temperature control didn’t work, there were marks on the floors and walls, and the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed. The mini fridge was broken. I reported it and was told a replacement would come the next day, but we stayed six days without a new one or any update. That’s not great if you want to keep drinks or snacks cold. There was major roadwork outside during our stay too, though that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. It wasn’t the worst place to stay, but some things need sorting out.

The rooms felt old-fashioned, and construction nearby made them noisy. The hotel is far from all the amenities. It seems to belong to a group that doesn’t care about guests’ comfort and only wants to make money. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want a nice visit to Paris.
