Les Edelweiss Mont-Blanc

The room’s view of Mont Blanc is lovely, but for what it costs, the amenities are lacking. There were no toiletries such as soap or shampoo, and the garden was unlit, reached by a very narrow staircase. Guests couldn’t use the veranda either. There’s no kitchen, so this felt more like an R&B or hotel than a bed and breakfast, and breakfast didn’t offer much variety. The owner wasn’t there. Angélique did what she could within the limits she had, but the setup made things difficult.

We had a lovely week, thanks in large part to the owners, who were welcoming, helpful, and cheerful throughout. The chalet has a splendid Mont Blanc view and a great location. Meals and breakfasts were very generous, too. We’d happily come back to explore the mountains in summer.

The location is a real plus, with a lovely view and plenty to explore nearby. But our stay was very disappointing, especially for the price. There was no welcome or introduction to the property, and we couldn’t use any common areas. The only shared spot was a landing with a table, four chairs, and a microwave, used by three families during our stay. The accommodation was noisy, too. There’s no soundproofing, so we could hear conversations from the neighboring “studio.” That was really a small suite with a mezzanine and bathroom. The chalet seemed to be used to its full capacity, which may be understandable, but it made the lack of privacy hard to ignore. We arrived to find no food containers, knives, or even a small bottle of water. I asked for a hairdryer, but never got one, and the woman I spoke with was extremely unpleasant. It was very hot in mid-August, even in the mountains, and there were no fans. The service was practically nonexistent and comfort was very average, largely because of the noise. The place didn’t match the photos or the website’s claim that it was “luxurious.” At this price, a hotel would have been a better choice.

We felt at home from the moment we arrived, thanks to the warm welcome. Our family spent five unforgettable days here, and we’d gladly return. The chalet was spotless, with a spacious suite and elegant, understated decor. Breakfast was a treat and very generous, and dinner was excellent, made with local products. It’s at 1100 meters and has a stunning view of Mont Blanc, with Chamonix and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains close by. Thank you, Stéphane and Naïma. The Angers team.
