La Bonne Auberge

They’re really nice, and they speak English and German too. The food is very good for the price.

After our car broke down, we were stranded and needed an emergency place to stay in Clerval. La Bonne Auberge took us and our two boys in within half an hour. They met us at the door and carried our bags. The rooms were modern and funky, with everything we needed, comfortable beds, a lovely bath and shower, and a beautiful view. Dinner was first rate. My husband and I had fish, while the children had delicious sausages and french fries. The staff were so friendly and thoughtful, even putting straws in the kids’ glasses and leaving knives off their place settings. We felt welcome with the boys, even though they’re energetic and noisy, and the staff were happy to answer all our questions. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic, with fresh fruit, bread, yoghurt, juice, cheeses, and options for children. Prices weren’t too high and felt well worth it. If we pass through town again, we’ll definitely stay here. Thanks for making our visit so brilliant after such a bad day.

The food was awesome, and for a Michelin rated place it wasn’t too pricey. After biking through the region all day, we arrived soaking wet, but the hotel staff were lovely. They dried our jackets and brought us extra towels. A must stay if you’re spending the night nearby.

Dinner, bed and breakfast came to nearly 200€, so this was no bargain. Still, the restaurant meal was tasty, with a simple menu, a good wine list, and very friendly service from the owners, him at check-in and her during dinner. We stayed for an October stopover as a couple in our 50s. The hotel looks nicely situated by the Doubs, though there isn’t much in the village. It sits between a railway and a road, with rooms facing either side. We were at the back, and thanks to the quality of the French railway carriages, the noise was okay. The first train we could hear went by at 6:15. The room was okay and modern, but there’s just a curtain between the bedroom and bathroom. Strange, and it leaves a lot to the imagination. Wifi was very awkward to connect to, and we had to sign in again whenever the phone went off. There are better ways to handle it. Overall, an okay place for an overnight stay.
