About this property

Saint-Gervais-les-Bains is a 19th-century spa town located halfway between Megève and Chamonix. Known as the cradle of ski tourism in France, it makes an attractive and ideal base for exploring the resorts of the Mont Blanc region. The resort has 2 centres, Saint-Gervais village (850 m) and Le Bettex/Mont d'Arbois ski resort (1400 m) linked by gondola (10 min) or road (2 km from the village centre) and offering great views over the Mont-Blanc mountain range. Three 4-storey alpine townhouses are equipped with lifts and divided to create 34 apartments. The residence is not suitable for guests with special mobility requirements. Internet access is available for a fee, and parking is available for guests arriving by car at this ski hotel. The apartments and studios come with a fully equipped kitchenettes with a microwave/grill, dishwasher, ceramic hob (4 rings) and a coffee maker. Further amenities include a TV, en suite bathroom or shower room, separate WC in most of the apartments, and a balcony or terrace. One can relax after a long day in the hot tub or sauna (fees apply for the latter), or enjoy a workout in the residence's own gym. By road: take the A40 motorway exit at Le Fayet. Follow signs for St. Gervais Centre Ville. Cross the whole of the village and at the crossroad, follow signs for Megeve. Pass the Pont du Diable (bridge) and turn into the 1st road on the left (Route du Mont Joly). After another 2 bends, slow down, and immediately after the second bend on the right a driveway leads down to the residence.

We stayed in April 2023 and the location was hard to beat. The gondola to the La Plagne ski area and the chairlift to Les Arcs are right nearby, making it easy to explore all of Paradiski. We’d arrived on the overnight Eurostar with very little sleep, so it made a big difference that our apartment was ready and we could check in early. No need to stash our luggage somewhere before our first day on the slopes. The staff were friendly, the apartment was clean, and we had a great valley view from the balcony. Security was good too: the entry codes changed weekly, and our skis, boots, helmets and goggles fit in our own lockable closet in the ski room. There were a couple of pieces of crockery and cutlery missing, but we noted them on the inventory form and weren’t charged for damage at the end. I’d definitely book again. A few small things could be better: the pool area was a bit cool, though not unbearable, and the billiards area shuts at 7 pm. We were three in an apartment that sleeps six, so we had room to relax, but I imagine evenings might feel cramped at full occupancy. The kitchen was small, with no prep space unless we used the draining board or hob. The microwave/oven sits quite high above the fridge, and reaching up to take out hot food didn’t feel very safe. The nearest shops and restaurants are a few minutes’ walk away, and we loved the local bakery/deli. I wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone looking for après-ski.

The balcony view and being so close to the piste were the only real pluses for us. The beds were uncomfortable, and so was the tiny sofa. The pool was nice to look at but not warm. You also have to pay a cleaning charge when you leave, even though you’re expected to do quite a bit of cleaning yourself first. There was a brush and mop, but no cloths or other cleaning supplies.

For what it costs, this felt like a rip-off. A room for six had just one bathroom, with nowhere to hang or dry towels. The sofa was the worst we’ve ever tried, uncomfortable and seating only three. The kitchen was small and badly designed.

We had a sunny-side terrace and an amazing view. The apartment was spacious, though it didn’t feel modern. Cleanliness was very French, which is why I’ve given it three stars.
