The host made a strong impression, very welcoming and happy to share the history of the place, and breakfast was good. The building itself feels like a castle, with different decor in each room and plenty of areas you can visit for free. Some of the rooms seem a bit dated, but the atmosphere is a big part of the appeal. It's a pretty unusual place to stay.

We had booked four nights, but a family problem meant we had to leave after two and get home in a hurry. The owner said he'd refund the remaining two nights, but hasn't, and now refuses to communicate. I found that very untrustworthy and dishonourable. The friendly manner feels fake. The rooms are tired and musty, the bedding and especially the towels are old and grubby, and the bathrooms look like they're from the 1970s. Breakfast was a joke.

There are thirteen themed rooms for guests to stay in. The restored residence dates from the 15th century and sits on the border of Burgundy and Franche-Comté. La Maison Royale also draws wedding parties and regularly puts on different exhibitions.

The owners make this place special, with a warm welcome, real enthusiasm for it, and attention to little details. The Royal House of Pesmes itself has a lovely, historic feel, with elegance, authenticity, and a calm atmosphere throughout. In the heart of Pesmes, it works beautifully for a wedding, with its gardens and architecture creating an enchanting setting for the day. It's also a memorable spot for a short getaway, whether you're curious about history, romantic, or interested in heritage. I'd happily recommend it, and it makes you want to come back, or stay longer.

Our wedding was here this weekend, and the place felt truly magical. The owners were fantastic, kind, helpful, and professional. It's quiet, secure, and peaceful, and we absolutely recommend it as a venue for a wedding or a night out.
