Le Clos Charmaine

The homemade breakfast, with fresh local products, was a real treat, and the peaceful setting made it easy to unwind while still being close to the sights. Our room was spotless, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable, with every little detail taken care of. From the moment we arrived, our hosts made us feel welcome. They were attentive, available, and clearly passionate about their region. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely come back. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

It's a shame, because the place has real potential, but it needs to be managed properly. We left Sunday morning without seeing or hearing from the owners. On Saturday my husband tried to contact the woman and got no reply, and she didn't try to reach us either. We arrived Friday evening and weren't greeted. We had to call her to find out where to go, and she told us the place was open. Once inside, the lack of cleanliness was appalling: squashed flies on the walls, cobwebs on the chandeliers and throughout the apartment, dirty mirrors in the bathroom, dirty windows, and dusty curtains. The upstairs toilet had a removed sink, the refrigerator door wasn't attached to the cabinet, and the terrace wasn't very clean. The artificial grass wasn't properly laid and was held down with stones, so it was easy to fall. In response to your reply: yes, we arrived late because we work, and my husband had informed you. Given our line of work, we thought it was reasonable to be greeted and shown to the accommodation. If the arrival time is a problem, then set arrival hours. We didn't see you at all, or of course we would have spoken with you. My husband contacted you several times and got no response, and we have proof. Looking at the comments, this seems to come up often, as does the cleanliness issue. This isn't an attack, just an observation that should give you a chance to reflect.

The Pear Room was spacious and pleasant, with a very large bed and bathtub. We had a lovely romantic night there with our dog, and the welcome and service were impeccable. Dinner went beyond what we expected: a salad with smoked salmon and seeds, filet mignon with mashed potatoes, then rice pudding with orange blossom and cinnamon, all homemade. Breakfast came on a generously stocked tray. Thanks again for the stay.

Breakfast served at the window was wonderful. The welcome was fantastic, and the cottage was peaceful and superbly equipped. It felt like being in the countryside while still close to the sea.
