Gîte Les Pingouins du Phare

The only real drawback was that towels weren’t supplied. Sheets and a bath mat were provided, though, and for the price it was still great value. We were cycling the V45 route and this made a perfect stop: clean, roomy bedrooms with good bathrooms, plus a basic shared kitchen. The Épicerie opposite made breakfast easy to pick up and eat in the kitchen. There are coffee machines, but bring your own filter papers. I’d recommend it.

It’s a quiet spot, apart from the church bells. Our first visit was great in room #1, but on the last one we stayed in room #4 and light came through the narrow window beside the door. There’s no way to cover it, and since it was the shortest day of the year, we barely slept. The managers really need to find a way to block that light at night. The kitchen key is also attached to an absurdly long chain that should be replaced.

For our GR34 walk, the location worked perfectly, just 500m from the sea. The en-suite rooms were very clean, the kitchen had plenty of supplies, and there’s a mini-supermarket nearby.

We nearly walked past the shared cooking area since it wasn’t signposted very clearly, but it turned out to be really useful. The room was comfortable, clean, and such good value. We had a fantastic stay here, thanks!
