Château de Villette

After a long drive, I was relieved to arrive, then horrified to find black mould in the room where my children were supposed to sleep. They spotted it first. The owner seemed completely nonchalant when I contacted him. He only offered an “apology” after learning I had photos and videos, following an initially rude exchange. While we were on holiday, he sent me repeated messages trying to get concessions from me in return for my deposit. I believe that money was owed back because no services had been provided. A sincere apology would have meant simply returning it. Instead, I had to find somewhere to sleep in France during high season. More than ten days later, I still had no deposit. I’ve never experienced such undignified behavior. The photos and video I have show what my child found and the condition of the room when we arrived. Nobody books a mouldy room for a holiday, and nobody takes children on holiday just to damage property. The owners’ suggestion that we did so is preposterous and shows their bad style. Rather than take responsibility, they made ludicrous accusations. My review reflects my real experience. Their reply slandering me is for their conscience to bear. Each to their own. After we got home, I found they had charged more than EUR 900 to my credit card without my knowledge or consent, two weeks after we had not stayed there. I’ve had to involve the authorities. It beggars belief.

The owners are a lovely family with two kids, plus a cat and a dog, and they made my stay really pleasant. Their house is beside a lake, right in the middle of the bourgondy countryside. A great place to stay if you’re looking for somewhere in the bourgondy. I’d recommend it.

We drove seven hours and were then asked to sleep in a mouldy room. A nightmare. Stay away! I’m writing this so people know what happened to my family and, I hope, don’t get the same treatment. My review is genuine, and I’m not part of any team making claims. We were left out on the street at night with nowhere to stay because the room had so much mould that it was unsafe for children and adults. They took money from us without consent, and we reported it to the authorities. The owner’s response is beyond reproach: no apology, no room, money taken that they weren’t entitled to, and now lies have been hurled at us. This is libel.

A great spot for a laid-back holiday, in a natural park amid the burgundy countryside. The hosts were very welcoming. Highly recommended.
