Le Chai Richard

A lovely place to stay while exploring the area. The former wine cellar is a really pretty setting, and we got a warm welcome. There are three pleasant rooms, including one suite with a terrace, plus a small pool. Highly recommended.

The Thau Lagoon and its oysters are close by, and Richard can point you toward some lovely places to try them. The local wines are worth discovering too, from the wineries in Pomérols and Marseillan, with rosé, red and white, including Pic Poule. We also enjoyed seeing Marseillan’s wilder landscapes, a welcome change after the busy, touristy beaches around La Grande Motte that we knew better. We stayed as a family of three, two adults and our four-year-old, at Richard and Doreen’s place in Pomérols near Marseillan. The welcome from the owners was sincere, warm and discreet, and we had no complaints about the guesthouse. The house is beautiful and very well cared for. Our Grenache room was spacious, with a lovely big bathroom. There’s no air conditioning, but despite the intense heat in early July, the nights were cool. Breakfast was straightforward and good, with baguette, pastries, homemade jams, fruit and coffee, served beside the pool in the pretty garden. And Richard’s Sète-style rouille at the table d’hôte was a real treat. We had a wonderful holiday and will definitely come back. Highly recommended!

The room was very pleasant and the welcome was warm. It was hot, and we did miss having air conditioning, though the ventilation worked well enough that we managed. I recommend the place.

We had a very peaceful, pleasant stay in a beautiful house. The host was welcoming and breakfast was excellent. They even let us park the motorcycle in the courtyard, which was a nice bonus.
