Mon Saint Michel

We spent five lovely days at Mon Saint Michel at the end of May 2024, and Patricia’s hospitality made it a great stay. In the evenings, you can sit in the front garden or use the terrace behind the house when it rains. We could also keep things in one of the two fridges in the stairwell, which meant chilled Muscadet sur Lie with a baguette or sandwich from Cherbourg-Octeville in the garden. It wasn’t cheap, but the location and the whole experience were just right for us. The setting makes it easy to reach Mont Saint Michel through the salt marshes in about an hour on foot, taking your time to stop, look, and take photos. You can also drive to good restaurants in the evening. LES TERRASSES DE LA BAIE and Le Mouton Blanc were our suggestions. Without a car, though, there are hardly any places to eat out nearby. The B&B is also a handy base for day trips. We went to Cherbourgh, Grandville, Avranches, and Saint-Malo, among other places, and found it useful to switch on Google Maps’ “No motorway” option to see more along the way. Patricia suggested stopping in Cancale before Saint-Malo, about 10-15 minutes before Saint-Malo, for a lovely view of St Michel when the weather is good. It’s a pretty little harbour town, packed on Sunday lunchtime but romantically quiet that evening, with plenty of dinner options. At L'Aviron we had delicious fish and wine, with extremely friendly service from the daughter of the house and her mum. And don’t miss Patricia’s breakfast.
