The indoor pool and hammam were the best parts of our stay at RELAIS THALASSO Pornichet | Château des Tourelles. Both were clean, warm, and relaxing, and the spa is very well kept. The staff there were courteous and friendly. The valet was also prompt and professional, and even cleaned our windshield, a nice touch. Our room, though, was not ready at the 4:00 PM check-in time. We waited until 4:30 PM without an explanation or apology. Once we got in, the bedroom carpet was stained and full of dog hair, as if it had not been vacuumed. The furnishings were dated and unclean, which felt well below what this price should get. A blocked shower drain then flooded the bathroom and reached the carpet. Maintenance cleared it temporarily and left towels, but there was no fan, no offer to change rooms, and no follow-up from management. Dinner was poorly coordinated: the appetizers came before drinks or bread, and nobody gave us much guidance on the several menus. There were very few choices for seafood allergies, although the veal chop we settled on was excellent. Breakfast tasted good, but the service was slow, inattentive, and disjointed. At checkout nobody asked how the stay had gone, even though we had reported a major problem. We had also canceled an appointment with the on-site events planner after the flooding and never got any acknowledgment or reply. The spa and valet team were standouts, but cleanliness, guest care, and coordination elsewhere were disappointing for a luxury hotel. The place could be exceptional, but it needs much more attention to detail and hospitality.

We had such a good stay here with our two young children. The restaurant food was superb, and the pool and gym were excellent. Everyone on staff was friendly, polite, and easy to talk to, and they really made us feel at home. We hope we can come back soon.

The restaurant and reception staff were very helpful, and we especially enjoyed breakfast and dinner. The voiturier service was excellent too. Our rooms had lovely furniture, a coffee and tea machine, a great balcony, and blackout curtains. The A/C worked well on the one very hot day. We had asked for two side-by-side sea-view rooms and got them, but room #233 smelled strongly of smoke. It clearly seemed that previous guests had been smoking there, so it wasn't suitable for children or non-smokers. After we raised it, we were moved to rooms #231 and 235, which were a little farther apart. Apart from that initial problem, we had a great stay at the Chateau des Tourelles. The place could be a bit more child-friendly. Children are basically tolerated at the spa during certain hours, but there are no child-sized bathrobes unless you bring your own, and some guests seemed to feel differently about having kids there. We took our children to Club des Dauphins, a 15 min walk away, which made their time in Pornichet more enjoyable during our family vacation. Thanks for a nice stay.

The location is good, and the staff are charming and helpful, but I'm not sure I'll come back. I was pleased with my last stay, especially the delicious breakfast, so I booked again. This time breakfast wasn't like last year, which was disappointing, and I wonder what changed. At this price level, I expected the quality to be high. Parking also cost extra, the room carpets are getting worn and look rather shabby, and I wish the spa had longer opening hours.

Five stars all around. It's in a great spot on a cliff above the Atlantic, and you can swim in the outdoor pool with a view or use the indoor pool. Just great.
