Port La Nouvelle Résidence

There’s plenty of free parking outside, and it’s a lovely spot. Our room was tiny but spotlessly clean, and the air con was a welcome relief in the sweltering heat. Service was very friendly, and breakfast in the morning was a nice French one.

The waitress tried to help us book a taxi home, but none were available. The hotel owner then drove us back to our boat, which was well above the call of duty. He wouldn’t take any money, so we gave him a bottle of wine. Maybe that was a bit 'coals to newcastle', but we really appreciated the kind gesture. We’d had a great lunch here after the man working in the fish shop in Port-la-Nouvelle recommended it. The place was packed with french people, always a good sign. Most people were choosing set menus, but we ordered a la carte. The fresh fish was delicious, and the scallops were immense in size and flavour! We’d walked about 4 km from L'Ecluse Sainte Lucie because the lock was out of order. We’d also stocked up on supplies in Port-la-Nouvelle and wanted to get a taxi back.

The oysters were super fresh and tasty, delivered from a farm in a nearby village. The menu was very good and not very expensive, and the staff were very nice. Good atmosphere too.

The service was really friendly, and the food was freshly made with good ingredients. Great value for the price. I’d definitely recommend it.
