Relais et Châteaux - Château De Germigney

We loved our spacious suite and its large balcony, and the free spa access was included in the price. We also spent an evening having dinner at Restaurant Maison Rosella. Still, breakfast cost extra, and for a two-night stay we paid 1200 euros, which seems steep for the Jura, especially with no fitness or Pilates room. There was no quiet indoor place to read, either, and our room faced the main road. The hotel charged more for our Sunday night despite having only two other guests that day. We don't mind spending on a holiday, but that felt unfair, almost like a scam aimed at foreign tourists. I’d give the hotel four stars.

A really luxurious chateau, and a great base for a longer stay while touring around Jura.

The room and linens were lovely, and the hotel and grounds are beautiful. We booked four nights through Relais and Chateaux, but the stay had some frustrating five star hotel quirks, and the place seemed understaffed. At check-in, we were hurried to a room without help for our bags or any explanation of the hotel and its amenities. It wasn't the room we had booked, though we were told it was an “upgrade.” We also had to pay per person to use the pool, which felt really distasteful for a five star luxury hotel. Cooling the room was another issue. The only way to open it up was through unscreened double doors onto a public area, and the air conditioning barely worked because the system was locked. The front desk said changing the settings was impossible. The all-day room service menu was very limited, just meat, cheese, two pasta dishes, and some desserts. The neighboring bistro in town was absolutely superb. The hotel itself is lovely, but there are better five star options in the Jura.

Dinner was great, and the hotel restaurant has earned its Michelin star. Breakfast was a letdown, though. Full sun fell on the bread table, and flies got onto the bread and pancakes. Closing the curtains and covering those items, as they did with the other food, would have helped. The curtains in rooms getting full sun should be closed too.
