We were caught in heavy traffic on a night when a festival was on in Nimes and the streets were packed. I called reception politely to say we would be late, by about an hour, but was told they couldn't help and that we wouldn't be allowed onto the premises. The staff were rude and couldn't resolve anything. I managed to get by in my rusty French, but that made no difference. None of the employees spoke English, which I found ridiculous. They kept our money and left us stranded. We'd paid and had let them know about the delay, yet they showed no concern for us as customers or visitors to the city. How can they offer decent service when nobody at reception speaks English?

Because I was delayed by traffic, they wouldn't let me in after the 20:00 check-in cutoff. They kept my money, so I had to pay for another hotel. The staff spoke only French, not English, Spanish, or German, and the booking hadn't warned me about that.

They wouldn't let us in once it was past 20:00, even though we were only 10 minutes late. They kept our money. It felt like the usual bad French experience.
