The chalet took a bit of finding because Google Maps had it slightly misplaced, but once we got there the location was great, about five minutes from the shops. We arrived early and the owner kindly let us into our room ahead of time, which helped a lot. Breakfast was included and very nice, and the view was lovely. Our family room had a double bed, twin beds on a mezzanine, a shared balcony, and a nice shower room. The ladder-like stairs to the mezzanine were a little tricky, and it was hard to keep the upstairs cool. The owners were friendly and helpful.

I can't recommend Chalet Rum Doodle after what happened with my booking. I first booked for summer 2020, then the stay was carried over because of the pandemic, and I was meant to stay in July 2023. That never happened, as Sarah took a very long time to answer emails and WhatsApp messages, often not replying for extended periods. After another lengthy delay, she agreed to refund the deposit, since I had no choice but to find and book somewhere else in Pralognan. I sent my bank details, but then she stopped answering my WhatsApp messages. By then I'd given up on email because she simply wasn't replying, and I lost a substantial amount of money. Communication with Sarah was difficult from the start.

We booked one night before our trek in Vanoise National Park, and the reservation itself went smoothly. Then my partner was injured and needed surgery before the trip, so he couldn't come. We told the hosts and got no reply, even after I followed up by email. In those circumstances, and with such short notice, some goodwill would have been appreciated. At the very least, they could have confirmed they received our message.

It felt like a home away from home. Sarah gave us such a warm welcome, and our room was lovely, with a spacious bathroom and a beautiful mountain view. Breakfast was generous and very good, just right before a day on the ski slopes. We didn't have dinner there, though the kitchen always smelled wonderful.

We stayed from Friday through Monday and had a pleasant time. The whole family welcomed us warmly, the room was comfortable, and the bed and large shower were great. The food was very good, and we got useful tips for our hikes. I'd come back.
