Domaine de Montgenoux

We had a wonderfully relaxing week here in August. The region is beautiful, with lots of castles and fortified houses to explore. The property itself is so peaceful, with a lovely pool and plenty of loungers. There’s also a spacious open-plan kitchen, living and dining area, plus an inner courtyard with a barbecue. Our hosts were very attentive.

The bedrooms are really spacious, each with its own shower, and the beds were excellent. With the way the rooms and bathrooms are arranged, all 11 of us had plenty of room to ourselves. The big living room worked well for meals together and board games, too. We had a wonderful stay at Domaine du Montgenoux for a friend's bachelor party. The grounds are incredible, with a large pool to cool off in, sheep and horses, a ping-pong table, and pétanque balls for games in the cool shade outside the house. Inside felt very comfortable, like home. Mr. and Mrs. Beaudoin were welcoming, discreet, and easy to reach whenever we needed them. We’ll definitely be back soon.

We left more tired than when we arrived, which was such a pity. We spent a week there in mid-August 2021, and the owners’ hunting dogs barked throughout the day and several times at night. Our nights were very disturbed, and it was hard to find peace during the day as well. We don’t enjoy or even tolerate that much barking. The location itself is superb if you’re looking for quiet in nature, a clearing in the middle of the forest. The cottage is very large, well-equipped, and rustic in style. Trying to combine rural, nature-loving tourism with breeding hunting dogs feels like a risky gamble for the farmers.

The rooms are beautifully arranged and decorated, and the cottage is ultra-comfortable. It’s a real haven of peace, with charming hosts. I highly recommend it.
