My family and I were still talking about this incident long after it happened. One evening around September 3rd or 4th, I was outside at the table with my wife, our two children, and my in-laws when the host's 80-year-old father came over. His son, who runs the accommodation with his mother, had told me his age. I don't know his name. We exchanged a few pleasantries, then I asked whether he spoke Corsican. He said he did, and that he spoke Corsican with Corsicans and French with French people. I asked because Corsican language and identity matter to me as an Alsatian, and were part of why I wanted to visit Corsica. My Romanian wife happily mentioned that I speak Alsatian, thinking she was agreeing with him. He grimaced and said firmly, “Alsatian is a German language!” We were stunned. I didn't answer; I was too shocked to respond to that insult in front of my family. A little later he added, mockingly, “You don't really know about Alsatians. Once they're German, once they're French, you don't know!” We had no say in being caught between German and French rulers at the time, but that's another subject. I managed to tell him, “We have always remained Alsatian!” He said nothing and soon left. His words stayed with all of us for the rest of the holiday. He didn't come talk to us again, and his wife handled our departure. I didn't raise it with her then because I didn't want to disrupt our family vacation in Propriano any further. A few days later, while we were in Ajaccio, I called his son, whose mobile number I had. I described what had happened and asked if he thought his father's remarks were normal. He seemed a little surprised but didn't answer, only saying he'd speak to his father and get back to me. That same day he texted that I hadn't understood the conversation, that his father had never said those things, and that he actually defended the Alsatian language. Apparently, since his father had taken me for a German, I'd had trouble understanding French. I told him I wouldn't let it go, and he replied with a laughing smiley. That was a disgusting experience, and the family's response only made it worse. If you're happy to be insulted by this host's father when you've done nothing to invite it, go ahead. Otherwise, find somewhere else. Corsica has plenty of friendlier, better quality hosts and places to stay. I have nothing but disdain for those remarks.

The apartment is spacious, attractive, and clearly well cared for. We especially liked the outdoor area and the beautiful pool. It's also just a short walk to the town center, with supermarkets very close by. Highly recommended.

Mr. Charles Quilichini has a way of making you feel at ease right away. He listens, treats you with respect, and is always polite, discreet, available, and sensible. One morning he brought us fruit he'd just picked, and shared tips about places to visit and things to do. His suggestions are suited to what you need, and he takes a real interest in hearing you out. The residence is quiet, clean, and well equipped. Highly recommended.

We were welcomed so kindly at Mrs. CESARI MIchelle's house. It's in a wonderful setting, and inside it's spacious and very clean. We'd be happy to come back here for a holiday. Nothing's perfect, so we'd give it 18/20.
