BELEM

For us, it felt like paradise, and the price is hard to beat. Thierry is charming and loves a good chat, with plenty to share about the region, his town, and his own life. The house has its own character, guests share things, and the signs make it easy to know how everything works. His pets weren’t there during our stay. The two upstairs bedrooms are lovely, though sharing one bathroom could be awkward if two families are staying. Thierry mostly comes on weekends because he works in Paris during the week, and we were happy to follow his house rules. He was full of information, and breakfast was generous too.

The room itself is comfortable, and you can make a meal if you need to. But when both apartments are occupied, the shared bathroom and toilet can be a hassle, especially with six people getting ready or needing to use the loo. Breakfast has the same limitation, with room for no more than four people.

We slept really well, thanks to a very comfortable mattress and excellent sheets, pillows, blanket, and towels. The kitchen has all the equipment you need, and breakfast was very good. The owner was discreet, and we got a warm welcome and a clear explanation of the place and how everything works. Our vehicle was secure in the rear courtyard, which was handy since we were carrying bikes. We’d definitely recommend it.

The owner was very friendly, and there are goats and a donkey in the garden. They smell wonderfully like the countryside, and kids will love them. The upstairs rooms are lovely, with thoughtful touches, and the location is great for visiting castles and the wildlife park. I highly recommend it.
