Château de Quesmy

A great place to stay, with several different types of accommodation to choose from. The owners are really friendly, and it makes a handy base for exploring northern France.

We stayed in the rooms above the reception area, which seemed to have been converted from old stables. They were spacious, with a large bathroom and a big sitting area. In the middle was an open kitchen with a table that could seat 20. There are also two chalet bungalows, each with two bedrooms and a lounge and dining area. I didn't go into the Château itself, so I can't comment on it. Outside, there's a lot of space, with neatly mowed grass, a heated pool, slides and other play space for children, table tennis, and a basketball court. The Château sits beside a lake, and it's about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Calais in the countryside of Haut-De-France. We rented the Château for a weekend to host a first Holy Communion and didn't use the services on offer. The reception room was the one drawback for us as Africans who came in a large group. It worked for a party of 80, and the large kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could think of. We enjoyed our stay, especially with the dry, sunny weather.

A good spot to get away from the busy routine, with a pleasant park and water all around the Château. The rooms are clean, though they could do with updating soon. Breakfast was fine but nothing memorable. Staff at both the Château and restaurant speak only some English.

The staff are friendly and the rooms are clean. It's a lovely place that lets you breathe and forget the noise of a busy city, with time to yourself surrounded by nature. If you're arriving after 11 pm, call ahead. The staff can give you the entrance passcode and leave your room keys by the door.
