L'Huitrière

We went back hoping for a lovely evening together, but the service was so rushed that we were out within an hour. It felt like the kind of fast turnaround you get at standard tourist places. The restaurant has changed under the new boss: the menu is smaller and more commercial, and the food isn’t as good as it used to be. We ordered mussels in both cream and marinade, and they were small, hard to open, stuck in their shells, and tasteless. The neighbors offer mussels, so the restaurant seems to have followed suit. It now feels like a standard tourist muck-up place. I’m really disappointed and miss the old boss.

The beach right across from the hotel is the main reason I gave it two stars. The mattress was very uncomfortable, and the carpet was dirty and covered in dark spots. It needs replacing as soon as possible. The evening before checkout, my husband told reception we’d be leaving early and asked whether everything was paid. The woman said to come back later because she was finishing dinner, at the reception desk around 18:30. Great customer service. The restaurant is best avoided: despite plenty of staff and few guests, we waited about 20 minutes just to get a menu. The service was slow, the food was bad, and my husband’s meat was honestly disgusting. The prices are very high for what you get. Breakfast was included, but one unfrozen croissant per person, a piece of bread, a small jam, butter, coffee, and a small orange juice that was half water didn’t feel like a hotel breakfast, even for a two-star hotel. Disappointing.

The restaurant was pleasant, with friendly staff. The food seemed a little overpriced, but breakfast was good: fresh croissants and bread, different butters and jams, yogurt, fruit, ham, and cheese. The room was clean and the bed linen matched the towels. The price seemed fair, so perhaps I’m being a bit harsh. The TV didn’t work, and the bathroom setup was odd, with a separate toilet and no basin, then a shower room and basin with no door.

An unexpected gem on our journey home. We had a wonderful seafood meal in a well-laid-out dining room that made for a convivial atmosphere.
