The pool, sauna and jacuzzi were tucked away in a peaceful part of the estate, and we found it lovely and quiet. The rooms were roomy, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a nice mix of style and ease. The grand, château-like building makes quite an impression, set among stunning scenery that feels like a real escape. Families have plenty of privacy here, and the welcome is warm. We liked being able to cook in the well-equipped kitchens, which gave the stay a homely feel. It’s especially well suited to families with children. La Domaine de Forges de la Vache is a beautiful place to unwind.

We had everything we needed for our family get-together, and then some. The location was fabulous, and the pizza evening was such a lovely extra. Thanks for a great stay, we can’t wait to return.

The restaurant deserves a special mention. Dinner was €18 per person for a fantastic three-course meal, with brilliant regional wine. We also found the stay very good value: a lovely room, romantic gardens and a generous breakfast. Everyone at the Domaine made us feel welcome, and our toddler was warmly welcomed too.

The garden was so peaceful, with ancient trees and a little stream running through the estate. We had a wonderful stay with our two kids. There’s plenty of space for walks or bike rides, and lots to do on site, including the pool, sauna, Scandinavian bath with massage jets, table tennis, table football and Pétanque. Inside, everything was clean and tastefully done, keeping the building’s old historic look.

Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, and we loved the pizza night. We came as a family group of 29 and booked all three properties. Everything was finished to a high standard, from the excellent kitchen equipment to the good bed linen and towels. The grounds felt idyllic, with lovely walks in the forest next door. Supermarkets are close by, and trips to Sancerre and Nevers helped make it a memorable stay for everyone.
