Villa Otilia

Please take this as a warning. For 130€ or more a night, you'd be better off at your rich, strict aunt's house. If you're planning a weekend with friends, book somewhere else. We booked three nights at what they call “Villa Otilia.” Before arriving late, I asked whether someone would be there to help us check in. They replied, “No worries. You reserved a room in our house, not our villa”. I knew I had booked a room in someone's villa; it wasn't my first stay somewhere the owners lived on site. While writing this, I'm at another chambres d’hôtes having my best experience so far, with kind hosts who make us comfortable and free snacks in the room. Eric and Sylvie assumed I didn't understand what I had booked, and used that as a reason to be hostile. We felt watched and got reprimanded when they thought we weren't doing things right. After a heated discussion, we left after one night because Eric's aggressiveness made us feel threatened. They felt bad about losing the money for the other two nights, and we felt bad about having to pay even for the one uncomfortable night. Their replies to bad reviews say plenty about how condescending and bitter they are. They shouldn't be in hospitality if they're going to treat guests with such hostility. Don't waste your time or money here.

The hospitality was top notch in a quiet, secluded and safe area. The hosts were available around the clock and made every effort for us. Our family of four stayed for four days at Villa Otilia and used two of its three rooms. The hilltop villa has spectacular views, and the house, spacious garden and pool were all immaculately clean. Breakfast, which we could choose to have inside or outside, was delicious, as were all three table d’hôtes dinners we had in the evenings. As experienced travellers, we highly recommend this small, covid-safe rural guesthouse. It could easily be considered five-star accommodation, with high standards in everything from building materials and interior decor to the garden furniture, bathrooms, linen and 15-metre pool.

We didn't get to use the swimming pool because it was a bit cold. Still, it was a wonderful place with wonderful people. Every detail was right, the accommodation was clean and high-tech, and breakfast was very good.
