Chateau de Lugagnac

The views were good and the rooms were large, but the chateau felt cold and neglected inside. It’s a very old medieval building, and we found it without much warmth or character. We visited in September 2021. The bicycles advertised were two very old ones that weren’t rideable, and the tennis court was overgrown and closed. The couple handling breakfast were pleasant and hospitable, though our experience with the owner was very different. We waited about ten minutes at the gate before being let in. He didn’t seem pleased to see us, offered no help with our many bags, and simply led us to the room without saying much. He speaks little English and refused to speak it with us. Disappointing overall.

Such a lovely spot.

The castle and the views over the surrounding countryside are magnificent. The owners made us feel very welcome, and breakfast was good quality, with local products. Our room had what we needed. I recommend it!

We loved the breakfasts, and the owners were attentive and clearly dedicated. The room was large, very comfortable, and spotless. The view is exceptional. It’s not luxurious in the way you might expect a castle to be, which suited us just fine; the essentials are all there. We’d recommend it without hesitation.
