Hotel Kyriad Rodez

Breakfast was one of the few decent parts, with a reasonable selection. The hotel otherwise feels badly aged, like it may have been three-star back in the 90s, and there’s clearly been little investment in updating it. The bedding was adequate, but the bathroom was awful: a tub with no shower curtain left the room like a swimming pool, the sink couldn’t be plugged, and the hairdryer was torn off the wall, hanging by its cord, a nod to Claude François? The soundproofing is terrible too, with all the traffic outside the train station coming through.

The staff were good with people and the place was clean, which is why I’m giving three stars. The rest of the hotel looks very dated, both the rooms and breakfast room, like a throwback to the 70s without the colors, even with fresh paint. For what you get, the price is the main problem. Three stars. I’d encourage Kyriad management to visit all their hotels, compare the service between them, and adjust prices to match.

I made the mistake of asking the receptionist for an invoice at checkout. I waited patiently, but it seemed I was interrupting her phone call. She told me to download it from the website. Since I’d booked through a third party, I said I didn’t understand, as the Campanile in the same city, also part of the Louvre group, had no issue providing one the week before. She said she paid a commission and that couldn’t be the case. Before booking, I’d called to ask if the hotel could match the same rate, and was told no. Now she was complaining about paying commission after I’d offered to book direct at that rate. Absurd. The young man’s welcome when I arrived had been excellent, but the receptionist’s behavior at departure was deplorable. Thank you for your response, which confirms my comments about your “sense” of hospitality. Several reviews here mention the appalling reception too, so take note. I should have read them first.

The woman who welcomed us was incredibly friendly, and the room had thoughtful extras like tea, coffee and a kettle. We booked the cheapest room and expected no view, which was exactly the case. Otherwise, it was great: clean and comfortable, with a spacious bathroom and everything seeming new.
