Hotel The Originals de la Plage Marennes Oleron

The staff were friendly and very helpful, and we found the hotel really well placed by the beach and near the city centre, with its amenities, restaurants, and fun fair. We stayed for two nights, a couple with a child under 10, in a well-equipped family room with enough space. The restaurant was good, too. On our first morning we had breakfast on the beach, which was delightful. Highly recommended.

Reception were welcoming and friendly. We were a couple in a room for three, which gave us a bit more space since the double rooms are small. One window wouldn't open. We told housekeeping, who kindly brought a fan and sent someone to fix it. The cleaning was disappointing for a 3* hotel. On arrival day there were tufts of hair in the shower, and our shampoo wasn't refilled on the third or fourth day, even though we were down to our last bottle. The restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday, so there were no drinks at the beach bar or food service until Wednesday. At 4pm we reserved the table we wanted, and were told the reservation was fine. But when we came back at 7pm, they wouldn't give us that table. No apology, and the attitude was as if they didn't care. The food was OK, though the meat was overcooked. Not worth a visit. One night the restaurant service team were screaming, shouting, and talking loudly until 23h30. We had a sea-view room and couldn't sleep before midnight. On Friday, guests arrived for a wedding on Saturday night. We were told the restaurant was fully booked, though we had no plans to return anyway. At 23h00 there were still loud voices and musique. If you're looking for a quiet vacation, this isn't the place. We also noticed that half the guests weren't wearing masks in the hotel, and there was no check. On our fourth night, the main door entry code was changed at 21h and no one bothered to tell us.

The hotel service was very good, and the facilities were excellent. It has a parking lot, a private beach, a swimming pool, and a great restaurant, making it a good fit for a family trip or a holiday with friends.

Right on the beach, the location is great. The rooms are lovely and very clean, and breakfast has an excellent choice.
