Camping de la Maye

We were glad this was only a one-night stop on the way home. The campsite felt very basic for the price, with dirty showers, no toilet seats and poor lighting. Reception wasn't staffed all the time. The water came out in a tiny trickle, and the push button took ages to refill anything. I won't stay here again.

Rue made a great stop for dinner and a look around the next morning before we continued on. We called in with our motorhome last October while heading down to Normandy. We didn't use the campsite facilities, but the staff were friendly and attentive. I'd stay again if I'm passing through.

The setting is a real plus, across from a supermarket and at the edge of a lovely town with a huge market along the high street. There are plenty of places to cycle to, and it's not far from Calais. The campsite itself could be a little gem with more care. The facilities were clean but very tired, and the grass and hedges needed cutting.

Rue is an interesting town to visit, and this small site is right in it, just a five-minute walk away. Auchan is opposite. The pitches feel private thanks to the hedges between them, and the showers and toilets were clean and well looked after.
