La Jalousie

The bed was comfortable, and being close to the airport and main road was convenient. But we felt unsafe and uncomfortable for much of our three-day stay. Reception was never staffed during its posted hours, and the restaurant stayed closed despite breakfast being advertised. There was no way to ask for privacy, and housekeeping came into our room while we were out. One door wouldn’t lock properly and could be opened by pulling hard, while the room’s whole front wall was glass facing the road and a dark garden. The doors in general were hard to close and needed force. The room was hot, and there were no windows to open. The bathroom was so cramped my partner had to sit sideways on the toilet. There was no hand soap, only two tiny shampoo/body wash packs. The toilet rolls were half used when we arrived, and the replacements were partly used too, which didn’t feel fresh. At night, a glowing green exit sign lit the room and made it hard to sleep. The worst part was a towel that smelled unbearably of urine or sour laundry. The stink filled the room, so we had to throw it outside just to breathe. The place felt unsafe and unhygienic, and I can’t recommend staying here.

The setting was lovely, the food very good, and the rooms comfortable and well maintained. I’d been wary after reading negative reviews, but soon found that experiences can differ. The manager, Paule, was charming and looked after me really well during my four days there. With the windows open, you might hear the nearby road. Shut them, though, and the noise disappears, and I slept like a baby. Thanks, Paule, for being so kind and welcoming.
