Dennis pointed out some nearby places to explore by bike, which made our short stay even more enjoyable. We’d love to come back for a much longer holiday, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend La Hérissonnière as a base for seeing the area. We stayed in the 'Découverte' room. It was clean and comfortable, with a pleasant bathroom, and the host talked us through its distinctive decor and the history behind the furnishings. The gite itself is beautifully equipped and sits in lovely countryside. Even though we called and arrived quite late, our host made us feel very welcome. The shared kitchen and dining space had everything we needed to prepare a meal, which was useful as we’re vegetarian. Breakfast was the best we had on our holiday: plenty of bread, jam, cheese, yoghurt, and hot and cold drinks, all homemade or from the local area. Many thanks for such warm hospitality.

The owners were friendly and welcoming, and breakfast came in a cozy room warmed by a fireplace. There was a generous spread of local food, too. If you’re after a quiet countryside break and appreciate houses with history and character, this feels like a lovely fit.

Breakfast didn’t seem very fresh, and I found it questionable, almost as if it had been reused. We were also left waiting 20 minutes before anyone showed us to a room. The place was dirty, with spiders in the corners, and the reception was appalling.

The rooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was simple but there was plenty, served in front of a magnificent fireplace. We came for the weekend and were met with a warm welcome. The owners were remarkably attentive, kind, and discreet. It’s a real little haven for anyone who loves quiet and historic buildings. We’d happily return and highly recommend it.
